Do you prefer your vintage and collectible items to come in a hip, new and completely FUN package? If so, you absolutely should visit Street Scene in Lexington, KY.
Street Scene is a quirky little store (and I mean that in a good way). It offers a great selection of vintage items, including and most notably clothing and fashion accessories, but not limited to only that. The shop also offers vintage furniture and accent pieces (chairs, sofas, prints, Wall art, lamps and the like), as well as period china and dishware, kitchenware and pottery among other items.
The clothing selection incorporates both mens and womens clothing, although there is a much greater selection for women. Their clothing features everything from blouses, shirts, pants, and dresses to hats, ties, shoes and even “must-have” dress gloves.
The shop’s theme is focused on what I would determine to be late 1950’s, ’60’s and 70’s era clothing and vintage pieces. And the merchandise is mostly displayed in little “vignettes” around the store. The colors, music and atmosphere of the place, which is designed in a boutique-styled layout, simply screams “Let’s have some fun!”. It transports customers back in time to a place both familiar and full of fond memories, but with masterful skill, also invites the interest of those too young to remember the times.
As I browsed among the shelves and displays, I was very appreciative of the fact that the items offered, though many must be around 40 years old, appeared very fresh and new, giving the shop a surprisingly contemporary feel (what’s old is new again). The goods all appeared to be in good to great condition, and the selection offered was a pleasant blend of the funky and fun.
When I checked prices on varying items, I found them to be both reasonable and what I would think to be affordable for the average shopper.
On the day that I visited (which was a Saturday afternoon), there were a number of people in the shop, but even so, the store was well organized, neat and clean.
Overall, I was very impressed with my first visit to Street Scene, having been referred there by another store owner. It more than lived up to her description. Unfortunately, Street Scene’s owner was out at the time of my visit, but nevertheless, my stop to check out the shop was well worth the trip.
If you’re interested in vintage items and haven’t already discovered this place for yourself, I encourage you to make a visit of your own the next time you’re out. You won’t regret it.
